Participants will earn professional-level certifications in wilderness medicine (Wilderness EMT), swiftwater rescue (Swiftwater Rescue Technician), and avalanche rescue (Level 1 Avalanche) with additional training in search and rescue, winter survival, tropical survival, and wilderness risk management. Students will live at an organic farm and sustainable living center, Rancho Mastatal, and the Pacuare River in Costa Rica in February, and at Northwest Connections’ education facility in Condon Montana in March, 2009. The course is offered for 15 optional University of Montana credits (from the College of Forestry and Conservation, and the Department of Health and Human Performance). Eligibility High School Diploma or GED equivalent Housing/Accommodation • Dormitory Students live on an organic farm in Costa Rica and at a renovated homestead in Montana. Homestay options are available in Costa Rica. Program Costs $8500 US with 15 credits. $750 discount if applying before October 15, 2008. $500 discount without college credit. Costs Include:  Includes 15 undergraduate credits, in-country Costa Rica and Montana shuttle, all room and board during program, Wilderness EMT, Swiftwater Rescue Technician and Avalanche Level 1 certification. Does not include airfare. Financial Aid Yes. Americorps and Veteran's Association vouchers accepted. Available for University of Montana financial aid.
