Overview
Will El Salvador join the recent Latin American trend of turning to the Left? Or will it continue its current path to the Right? Join us in seeing the process for yourself! March 2009 marks the fourth time that Salvadoran citizens will be going to the polls to elect their executive since the 1992 Peace Accords ended a 12-year war in El Salvador and the FMLN Left-leaning guerillas put down their arms and became a political party. The FMLN candidate is a journalist and a well-known news show host named Mauricio Funes. Right-leaning ARENA’s candidate is Rodrigo Ávila, former Director of the National Civil Police. You will get a chance to look at election issues, learn about voting mechanisms and explore the broader socio-political world that frames them all.

Financial Aid
Yes. The Mary Witt Scholarship Fund was established in 1987 in memory of Mary Witt. The Center attached the fund to Mary's name because of her inspiring commitment to a more inclusive, just and peaceful world. The money in this small fund enhances opportunities for persons lacking sufficient personal resources, especially persons of color, to participate in Center for Global Education travel seminars and meet their counterparts in other countries who are working for social change. Funds are for people of color or for participants involved in grassroots work. Funds will also be considered for entire groups that are made up primarily of people or color or those working at the grassroots level.
