Overview
What does it mean to prioritize land conservation in a region with millions of unemployed agricultural workers? Is it possible to simultaneously participate in the current international economic order and pursue national policies of sustainable development? Explore these and other questions through the lens of contemporary Nicaraguan political society and U.S. foreign policy. Meet with individuals and organizations from a broad spectrum of political beliefs and social identities, and compare their approaches to environmental justice and social change. See first-hand the environmental issues and development struggles shaping the lives of the Nicaraguan people. Travel to rural communities and ecological reserves in different parts of the country to analyze the causes of--and solutions to--poverty, injustice and environmental degradation.

The money in this small fund enhances opportunities for persons lacking sufficient personal resources, especially persons of color, to participate in Center for Global Education travel seminars and meet their counterparts in other countries who are working for social change. Funds are for people of color or for participants involved in grassroots work. Funds will also be considered for entire groups that are made up primarily of people or color or those working at the grassroots level.
