Overview
Academic Treks College, a division of Broadreach, offers unparalleled study abroad opportunities for college students. Backed by fifteen years of experience in running educational programs abroad, ATC combines the finest elements of experiential learning, traditional classroom learning, and service learning with international travel and cultural exchange to provide extraordinary expeditions and study abroad opportunities.
Students can earn up to 3 credits in marine science through an experiential course which combines collecting data for the Bamfield Marine Science Centre, learning about general mammal biology, behavior, conservation efforts and future prospects whilst carrying out carrying out hands on research. Students will assist researchers with whale behavior research, tracking and data collection.
Harbor seals, humpback whales, Dalls porpoises and California sea lions converge each summer on the spectacular British Columbian coastline, providing the unmatched opportunity to study marine mammals in their natural habitats. Learn and work alongside marine scientists, researchers and naturalist guides, both in the classroom and in stunning wilderness settings. Sea kayaking adventures give you ample opportunities to encounter wildlife up close, while more formal studies, service work and hands-on research give you the in-depth knowledge to make the most of these experiences.
